Second suspect surrenders in death of 7-year-old Addis girl

ADDIS, La. — Christopher Butler surrendered to the West Baton Rouge Parish jail Monday afternoon, making him the second person taken into custody in connection with the death of a seven-year-old girl.

Butler faces charges of second-degree murder and two counts of felony domestic abuse battery – child endangerment. A warrant for his arrest was issued Thursday, July 2.

His surrender came days after the Addis Police Department announced the arrest of Breyonne D. Dorsey, 30, of Addis, who was booked Friday on charges of second-degree murder, two counts of felony domestic abuse battery – child endangerment, principals, and obstruction of justice.

Addis Police Chief Jason Langlois confirmed to WBR Independent that Dorsey is the child's mother. The principals charge means Dorsey is accused under Louisiana law of participating in or aiding in the commission of the murder.

Both arrests stem from an incident on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, when officers responded to a residence in the 8000 block of LA Highway 1 South and found the girl suffering from critical injuries. She was transported to a local children's hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The investigation remains active. Additional charges may be considered as the case progresses.

Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
