Port Allen police say one person is likely behind six car break-ins

Port Allen police believe one person is responsible for the six vehicle break-ins the department reported Sept. 30, and detectives have video that could help identify a suspect.

"Yes, we believe they are connected," Port Allen Assistant Chief of Police Revay Smith said in an emailed response to WBR Independent.

All six vehicles were unlocked, Smith said. Firearms and "miscellaneous items" were taken. Smith did not say how many guns were stolen.

The break-ins happened overnight on North 12th Street, Franklin Street and Georgia Avenue.

As of Oct. 6, no one had been arrested. Police are looking for one suspect, described as a man of unknown race, wearing dark clothing, between about 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-6.

"We've collected some video footage that will assist our detectives in this investigation," Smith said.

How this year compares

Smith said Port Allen had seven vehicle burglaries, including attempts, from January through September 2026. That compares with 14 during the same months of 2025.

It was not clear whether the seven for 2026 include the six break-ins reported Sept. 30.

What police are doing

Smith said the department is adding patrols in the areas hit hardest. It is also encouraging residents to put cameras on the outside of their homes and posting reminders on Facebook to lock vehicles and take valuables out of them.

In its Sept. 30 Facebook post, the department urged residents to lock their doors, close their windows, keep their keys with them, and never leave a vehicle running unattended.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should call 911 or the Port Allen Police Department's non-emergency line at 225-490-8599.
