Addis police are investigating the death of a person found near the levee in Addis.

Addis Police Chief Jason Langlois said officers were called out around 11 p.m. Sept. 26 after people riding off-road vehicles on trails near the levee found the body.

In a Facebook statement Sept. 27, the Addis Police Department said the circumstances appear "consistent with a possible self-inflicted incident." The department said no official determination on the cause or manner of death will be made until law enforcement and the parish coroner's office complete their investigation.

Police have not released the person's name "out of respect for the deceased and their family." The department asked the public to respect the family's privacy and to avoid speculating or sharing unconfirmed information while the investigation continues.

APD said more information will be released "if and when appropriate."

WBR Independent reached out to the parish coroner's office Sept. 27 and had not received a response by publication.
