ADDIS — A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Aug. 24 indicted the mother and her boyfriend in the death of 7-year-old Paris Williams, who died after being found unresponsive in an Addis home on July 1.

Breyonne D. Dorsey, 31, and Christopher Butler, 34, were each indicted on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

Paris died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to investigators. Her death was ruled a homicide.

The child suffered extensive injuries, including head and brain injuries, injuries to her neck and back, broken ribs, and a lacerated kidney and liver.

Dorsey and Butler originally told detectives that furniture overturned during a fight between the couple inside the home, injuring Paris and causing her death. Detective Sgt. Ron Carroll, the lead investigator, said evidence uncovered during the investigation contradicts that account.

At a July press conference, the Addis Police Department revealed that a 911 hang-up call from Dorsey's home came more than two hours before a second call reported the child unresponsive. Police said evidence at the scene had been tampered with and concealed. Both suspects declined to cooperate with investigators.

The Louisiana State Police crime unit assisted in processing the scene.

Second-degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole under Louisiana law.

The case has been set for motions on Sept. 2.

Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
