Manufactured Home Destroyed in Early Morning Fire in Addis

A manufactured home on Myhand Street in Addis was destroyed in an early morning fire Monday, the third structure fire in West Baton Rouge Parish in three days.

WBR Fire/EMS responded to the scene and found the home fully involved in flames when they arrived, according to the fire department. Addis Police officers were first on scene and reported the fire already burning through the structure.

All occupants escaped safely and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to neighboring homes. The cause is under investigation but is believed to be accidental, according to the fire department.

Firefighters reported finding no working smoke alarms inside the home.

The fire follows two other structure fires in Port Allen over the weekend. A grease fire damaged a kitchen on Court Street on Saturday, and a duplex fire on Avenue B displaced two families Sunday evening. No injuries were reported in either incident.

The fire department urged residents to install smoke alarms in every bedroom and on every level of their home, test them monthly and replace batteries as needed.
