PORT ALLEN — GXO Logistics and Spherion Staffing are looking to fill more than 30 warehouse positions at a hiring fair Tuesday, May 19, at the company's Sugarhouse Road facility in Port Allen.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2850 Sugarhouse Road.

The positions are for stand-up reach truck operators, paying $20.50 an hour on a temporary-to-permanent basis through Spherion, which serves as GXO's sole staffing supplier at the Port Allen site.

Ashley Rosenson, the Spherion recruiter handling the hiring, said applicants should come dressed for the role, bring a resume, and be ready to demonstrate their skills on the equipment.

"Be prepared to get on the reach truck," Rosenson said. "I'm going to have GXO supervisors out there, and they're going to be testing these guys on the reach truck to make sure that they can operate this reach truck safely."

A reach truck is a type of forklift operated from a standing position. The forks move up and down and extend outward into warehouse racking. GXO's racks run five to six levels high, and operators need to handle the equipment at full capacity.

The facility operates on four 10-hour shifts. Day shift runs from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and night shift from 4 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with schedules running either Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday.

Workers start as temporary employees through Spherion, with the opportunity to convert to permanent GXO positions. Rosenson said there is no set timeline for conversion. Attendance, performance, and production numbers all factor into the decision.

"As long as they're great employees, they come to work — it's a great opportunity for them," Rosenson said. "I can't guarantee that they'll be hired on with the company, but as long as they do what they're supposed to, it's a good chance."

Workers who convert to permanent GXO employment receive standard benefits including PTO, health, dental, and vision insurance.

The GXO facility at 2850 Sugarhouse Road has been operating for approximately four to five years and currently employs about 60 permanent GXO workers. GXO does occasionally hire directly for reach truck positions, but Spherion is handling all recruitment for Tuesday's event.

The hiring fair is open to the public. No registration is required.
