23-year-old apprehended following extensive search involving drones, canines, and air support
ERWINVILLE, LA — Randall Boyett, the 23-year-old inmate who escaped custody Monday morning after jumping from a transport van, is back in custody following a daylong manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed the capture around 6:45 PM—approximately 10 hours after Boyett's escape.
The Escape
Boyett fled custody around 8:47 AM while being transported from Webster Parish on drug-related charges. He jumped from the transport van while it was stopped at a red light in the area of U.S. 190 and Poydras Bayou Road in Erwinville.
At the time of his escape, Boyett was handcuffed in front and wearing a white shirt and black jogging pants.
Extensive Search Operation
The manhunt involved significant law enforcement resources throughout the day:
- Drones for aerial surveillance
- DOC Angola Chase Team with trained canines
- Louisiana State Police air support
- Multiple agencies canvassing the Erwinville area
Sheriff's officials maintained throughout the day that they did not believe Boyett was armed, though they urged the public to use caution and not approach if spotted.
Criminal History
Boyett has a documented pattern of fleeing from law enforcement. In 2021, when he was 19 years old, he was arrested in Escambia County, Florida, and charged with grand theft, grand theft of a firearm, and two counts of fleeing and eluding after allegedly stealing a boat, motor, trailer, and firearm.
During that case, he fled from deputies on two separate occasions before being apprehended.
Community Alert
The escape prompted multiple public safety alerts throughout the day, with residents in the Erwinville area and along U.S. 190 urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings to authorities.
The sheriff's office released multiple updates, including photographs showing Boyett's appearance variations and visible tattoos on his right arm.
Investigation Continues
Boyett will face additional charges related to his escape. He was originally in custody on drug-related charges from Webster Parish at the time of Monday's incident.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office has not yet released details about where or how Boyett was apprehended.
