West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies arrested a New Roads man at a Lobdell Highway motel on Thursday, Sept. 24, after the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office asked for help finding him.

Ronald Roberts Jr., 42, was wanted in East Baton Rouge Parish on charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property, the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said.

East Baton Rouge contacted the sheriff's office around 7:30 p.m., according to Sheriff Jeff Bergeron. Uniform Patrol deputies found Roberts at the OYO Hotel on Lobdell Highway, said Sgt. Landon Groger, the sheriff's office spokesperson.

The sheriff's office said it activated its Special Response Team "due to the severity of the charges and information indicating the presence of weapons."

Special Response Team deputies took Roberts into custody without incident, according to the sheriff's office. No weapons were found, Groger said. Roberts was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center as a fugitive for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

"When another agency needs our assistance, our deputies are ready to respond," Bergeron said in a statement.

Groger said the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was only assisting East Baton Rouge in picking up Roberts. The underlying case belongs to East Baton Rouge, and the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office did not release details about it, including when or where the alleged offenses happened. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request for those details.

An arrest is an accusation, not a finding of guilt.
