Victor Woods Jr. and Lori White will meet in a Dec. 12 runoff for the open 18th Judicial District Court Division C seat after Tuesday's election, according to unofficial results from the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Woods led the three-way race with 2,366 votes, or 36%. White was second with 2,128, or 33%. Alycia Grace-O'Bear finished 78 votes behind White with 2,050, or 31%. All 20 precincts reported.

Louisiana requires a majority to win outright, and no candidate came close.

The race for the second runoff spot stayed tight to the end. White led in early returns. With 18 of 20 precincts counted, Grace-O'Bear had cut her deficit to 83 votes. Woods moved into first place late in the count.

The seat opened when Judge Alvin Batiste Jr. retired in January after 23 years on the bench. All three candidates are Democrats.

Only voters in Iberville Parish's Election Subdivision 1 had the race on their ballots. About 58.7% of the subdivision's 11,153 registered voters cast a ballot in it.

The judge who wins won't only work in Iberville. In a September interview, White said the Division C judge handles criminal court in Iberville and civil court in West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee.

The WBR Independent profiled all three candidates and their campaign finances on Oct. 19.

## West Baton Rouge narrowly renews health unit tax

West Baton Rouge Parish voters renewed the parish health unit tax by 213 votes. The 10-year, 1.75-mill renewal passed 5,032 to 4,819, or 51% to 49%. Parish turnout was 55.2%.

A mill is $1 in tax for every $1,000 of a property's assessed value. The parish doesn't levy the full 1.75 mills. It collected 1 mill in 2026, about $754,000, and plans the same for 2027, according to the parish's 2027 budget documents. Parish Council President Jason Manola has said the full rate would bring in about $1.3 million a year.

The renewal was the only local item on West Baton Rouge ballots. All three local races that drew more than one candidate at qualifying ended before Election Day. Sonceria Brown Evans withdrew from School Board District V, Ulyse Godfrey Sr. withdrew from Justice of the Peace Ward 7, and Thomas Southon Sr. was disqualified in Constable Ward 1, according to the Secretary of State. Christopher Murphy, Tiffany Victorian and Sherman J. Dickerson take office Jan. 1.

Murphy's win means six of the 10 seats on the West Baton Rouge Parish School Board will change hands in January without a single vote cast. Five incumbents did not run again, and their replacements qualified unopposed in August:

- **At-large:** Brandie Blanchard replaces Teri Bergeron.
- **District III:** Warren LeJeune replaces Dr. Atley Walker.
- **District IV:** David Rodrigue replaces Ronald "Blue" Leblanc.
- **District V:** Christopher Murphy replaces Sonceria Brown Evans.
- **District VII:** Davina "Deanie" Laprarie replaces G. Alden Chustz Jr.
- **District IX:** John Musso replaces Michael Maranto.

Four incumbents return unopposed: Burke Fiscus (District I), Hayley Gauthreaux Clouatre (District II), Chareeka Grace (District VI) and Matthew Daigrepont (District VIII). All 10 terms begin Jan. 1, 2027.

## Iberville School Board at-large

Demetrius Franklin and Becky Sue Bickham Landry will meet in a Dec. 12 runoff for the at-large seat on the Iberville Parish School Board.

Franklin led with 4,804 votes, or 41%. Bickham Landry was second with 3,870, or 33%. Jeanne Bujol Medine had 3,086, or 26%. All 31 precincts reported.

The WBR Independent asked all three candidates the same four questions on Oct. 22.

## Two Iberville races came down to single digits

- **School Board District H:** Jasmine Carter led Deborah "Debbie" Washington 781 to 773, an 8-vote margin.
- **Justice of the Peace Ward 2:** Ronald "Ronnie" Grace led Tameshia Shuntel Hasten 1,042 to 1,038, a 4-vote margin.

Both leaders cleared 50%, so neither race goes to a runoff. Both results are unofficial.
